What does bookend mean?
The first or last serial number of a run.
What it's worth
The same card, with a number people ask for
A bookend is a numbered card stamped with the first or the last number of its run: 01/99 or 99/99. The two ends of the run are its bookends.
- It is still one of 99. Every copy of a card numbered to 99 is the same card. The stamp is the only difference.
- Some collectors pay more. The first and last numbers, and the player's jersey number, are the ones people look for.
- It isn't a 1/1. A listing that calls 01/99 an "eBay 1/1" means the number is unusual, not that the card is the only copy.
